If you’re like me, when you’re ready to ride, all you want to do is go. Just jump on and start pedaling. But for your own safely and to keep your bike in top working order, it’s really important that you get into the habit of performing five simple maintenance checks whenever you ride.
The good news is that these inspections are quick and easy, taking no more than 30 seconds total. And, by checking your bike for the most common mechanical failures that can lead to a crash, you’ll be taking some very effective steps to ensure your own safety each time you go out.

Got the head off today, need to get a puller to get the flywheel off and actually break the cases apart, but the bore/cylinder tells an interesting story.
With luck i'll have the rest to bits next weekend and really know what the damge is.
Where's the best place for aftermarket/replacement bits? (Preferably in Australia I guess).
Guess I'll need the bore redone as well. Sigh.
Thoughts on a hot cam/hi comp piston? Anybody else done that?
Started the pull down on the TE510 over the weekend, have found a little metallic residue, and the valves will need adjusting, but apart from that, seems ok so far.
Need a couple more tools to get the engine fully out of the frame, then the real fun begins.
I've had the 2005 TE 510 now since March 2005, and its been fantastic. But.....
Last weekend, I went for a short ride, and thought that the engine had developed a "knock".
The first real Amtra ride for the year for me was the Karoonda ride. it has a bit of a reputation as being a long day, with the ride finishing around 9pm last year, but there was an injury which made it late.
The ride briefing said I needed to be able to do 90km's, which given the 9.2L tank on the 2005 husky, would not be a problem, so I was sort of wondering why such a long day (I found out later, its because 90km is really about 120!)
As we waited in the carpark, I realised that this ride had about the widest range of bikes i'd seen on a ride in a long time. We had:

This was to be a ride report for the Southern districts, a ride around the southern forests around Adelaide.
Amtra SA is one of the few clubs that manages to get permission to go into these forests and because of the great scenery its a popular ride.
However, it is getting harder and harder to get permission, and Mark tirelessly works to organise the ride every year in close cooperation with the forest Rangers.
