What a weekend!
For those that don't know my son was picked to ride the KTM Junior Supercross Challenge in Dallas this weekend.
KTM does it right. They made my whole family feel welcome and treated all 15 of those kids participating like stars. Lots of free stuff, helmet, goggles, gear and best of all provided and MAINTAINED the bikes.
Donnie Hansen led us down to walk the track about 11:30 or so. He was telling everyone about how Ricky Chad and Bubba go through the whoops. I told him Josh goes through em pretty go himself. He just laughed and said "yeah he's coming around."
First practice was at 2. They ran the whole track in the first practice. Most of the kids were having a hard time through the sand and the whoops so they decided to cut that whole part of the track for the 2nd practice and the main.
The boy looked good in practice. He did come into one corner and didn't realize it was so banked and fell over. That was the only time he went down the whole day.
2nd practice was really good he was starting to get used to the track. Those jump faces are huge for the little guys. Hell who am I kidding they're huge for me! I could tell by the way he was riding he had a really good chance to get on the podium but didn't want to be too optimistic. Anything could happen.
Finally around 8 it was time for the main. He said he was nervous. Can't figure out why theres only 40 some thousand people watching. He didn't get the best of starts at all. He even said after the race that his start sucked. He went into the first corner in 5 or 6th I think and then started picking people off. He just couldn't catch number 13. That kid was smoking and rode awesome. Shane ended up 2nd in the main. Great ride.
If any of you have kids or upcoming kids that race or ride make sure you go to your local ktm dealer and send in those resumes. It's a random drawing to get picked. An experience we'll never forget.

I also got to meet Scott and Brian Luttman and talked with them just for a few minutes before the races. Nice to meet you guys and Scott thanks for cheering the little man on!
