I am a novice trial rider who has owned older model 250 two strokes in the past, eg 93 Cr, 95 YZ. Now have looked at a CRM250A '99, which is in very good condition. Any feed back on this model would help me greatly. I was particularly interested about the oil injection reliability and other thoughts on derestricting the thing.

Damo I had one of these and found it to be a reliable bike and very comfy.First off when I got the bike I thought it was a bit resticted so I went about deristricting it by chopping the muffler and removing the little disc just inside the headerpipe. This made it a little
better but still not real grunty (it now had kdx rmx sort of power).I then had to bite the bullet and by a pro-circuit pipe and muffler which made a huge difference.I also took the front sprocket off and replaced it with a cr 250 (14 tooth I think). This was a smaller sprocket so it came on the revs a bit quicker ,then I went up two teeth on the back to get speed again, this might sound like only one tooth but the little front made the world of difference. You can also go to a different size main jet to allow for the pipe mods but i,m not sure which way to go ,richer i think but i got the info from a back isue of dirtbike mag.I wouldn't recomend going to far on the jets to start with because it might affect the radical computer thingy they talk about on the side cover. There was never any restricters in the carby only the exhaust.Open your airbox a little at a time to get the motor breathing properly.Thats about all i can say about the crm ,just remember it's not a cr and never will be but you can ride home straight out of the bush.highly recomended bike and oil injection is honda fool proof(not yamaha)so go for it.

When you take the front sprocket off it has a lokating plate with two 6mm bolts.Turf the bolts and put the plate behind the sprocket to avoid the sprocket and chain rubbing on the engine.Hold sprocket in place by putting on outer circlip like cr's do.
