News June 26:First Ride 04' Yamaha YZ125
Yamaha sprang from the gate to become the first manufacturer to release a 2004 motocross bike. Dirt Rider met with the boys in blue at RaceTown 395 in Adelanto, California, to spin laps on the revamped ride. With so much hype surrounding Honda's, Kawasaki's and Suzuki's new 250 four-stroke motocross bikes, Yamaha knew it had to tweak its two-stroke eighth-liter mount to compete. Subtle alterations to the YZ along with an all-new 48mm Kayaba fork should up the ante in the 125 class for 2004.
Following our first day of testing, we find the bike very impressive. The new fork is a pleasant addition, and changes to the power curve offer up a healthier midrange punch as well as an extended pull up top.
