Suzuki Motorcycles has expanded its range in the versatile sports adventure tourer class with the release of its latest offering, the V-Strom 650.
As with the original V-Strom 1000, the all new 645cc version again combines sports performance with the comfort and practicality of an enduro tourer, this time in a stylish mid-size package.
"The expansion of the V-Strom range reflects the Australian market's growing demand for more recreational flexibility," Perry Morison, General Manager - Motorcycles, Suzuki Australia, said.
"Equally at home on challenging country roads and around metropolitan streets, the V-Strom 650 delivers versatility perfectly suited to the Australian lifestyle.
"The new V-Strom 650 offers even more freedom and opportunity for adventure; this is a motorcycle for anywhere, anytime, any road."
Based on the popular Suzuki SV650 series engine, this well proven powerplant has been specifically tuned for the V-Strom to deliver strong low end and mid range performance.
The newest addition to the V-Strom range is powered by a 645cc, liquid-cooled, 90 degree V-Twin engine with DOHC, four valves per cylinder and an advanced digital fuel injection system.
The V-Strom's innovative digital engine management system includes SDTV (Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve) throttle bodies, each using a secondary butterfly valve, thereby maintaining the intake charge velocity, which adds up to smoother throttle response and exceptional torque across a broad rpm range.
Matching outstanding performance with superb styling, the V-Strom features a sporty fairing and a three-position manually adjustable windscreen which covers a vertical range of 50mm, changing angle as it is raised.
The long, low seat allows the rider to easily shift their weight backward or forward to vary the seating position for a relaxed and comfortable ride, whether on short city trips or out on the open highway.
With its seat height at just 820mm, the V-Strom features ergonomically designed side covers and fuel tank shaped around the rider's seating position to further enhance rider comfort.
The extended riding range afforded by the generous 22 litre fuel tank and luggage rack with four tie-down hooks allow the ingenious V-Strom 650 to switch easily from commuting to country touring.
A comprehensive yet compact instrument cluster provides the rider with detailed information at a single glance.
Lightest in its class at 189kg dry weight, the adaptable V-Strom 650 features a shorter wheelbase than traditional touring bikes, which assists the handling and manoeuvrability.
Smooth handling is further enhanced by the balanced rigidity of the V-Strom 650's twin-spar aluminium alloy frame and swingarm.
Front forks have 43mm stanchion tubes and adjustable spring preload, while the rebound-adjustable rear shock features a convenient dial-operated hydraulic spring preload adjustment system, allowing riders to adjust for passengers or road conditions without needing tools.
Front brakes are powerful dual 310mm discs with dual-piston hydraulic calipers and a 260mm disc fitted with a single piston caliper at the rear.
The DL650 (V-Strom 650) is available in Pearl Blue, and comes standard with a two year unlimited kilometre warranty at an introductory retail price of just $9,990 (including GST) plus on-road costs.
