Ricky Carmichael is the 2002 AMA 250cc National Champion!
250 class: Ricky Carmichael won the overall, the 250 championship, and the
eighth national championship of his career today. RC has dominated 2002,
winning 21 out of 26 events so far this year. 11 main events in supercross,
and 10 straight overalls in outdoor motocross. 20 straight moto wins! Ricky
has now won 2 titles this year, the AMA/EA Sports 250 Supercross Series,
and the AMA/Chevy Trucks 250 U. S. Motocross Series.
Second overall went to Ezra Lusk with finishes of 4/3, and Sebastien
Tortelli was third overall with a 3/4.
125 class: James Stewart won the overall, going 2/1. Chad Reed was second
overall, with finishes of 1/2. They tie on points, but Stewart wins the
tie-break by virtue of the better second moto performance. James leads in
the point standings, and can clinch his first ever professional title next
weekend in Binghamton. Third overall went to Brock Sellards with 3/4 finishes.
Notes: Grant Langston is back in action after recovering from knee surgery.
He was fast, running second in the second 125 moto, until he fell near the
end of the race. David Vuillemin and Travis Pastrana are out for the rest
of the season. David had surgery on his shoulder, and Travis had surgery on
his knee after injuring it at the Gravity Games. Evan Laughridge raced last
week at Loretta Lynn's, winning two amateur championships. This week he
jumped straight into the 250 Nationals!
