8 yr old son outgrown his Yamaha PW80

Please can I get advise on what bike I should purchase my son. He is 8 yrs old and very tall for his age.

He has been riding his Yamaha PW80 since he was 5 yrs old and now needs a larger bike due to his height.

I called a Yamaha dealer who explained my next step up is a 125 , this is a very large and powerfull bike which is a concern.

for me as I dont want the power but need a bigger bike. Is there a taller bike which is not as powerfull as the 125?

Does not have to be a Yamaha?

Thanks

Hi Tracy,

Hi Tracy,

One of these models is the next logical step up IMHO:

Honda XR80 or XR100 (soon to be replaced by a 125 which would also be alright, but you might be able to get a good deal on the current models as they runout).
Yamaha TTR125

Note that the Honda CR80 and CR125's or the Yamaha YZ80 and YZ125 are a huge jump up in performance as they are full on race bikes.

The TTR or XR's are still in the "Fun" bike sort of range, but are still a step up from the PW80.

Hope that helps.

In my idea the 125cc is really a big leap from a 80cc, but I think it would be a better investment for your kid to have it. Surely he will out grown the bike in no time. You just have to teach him how to be responsible and how to control the bike swiftly.
