cr500 has sat for a year or so in shed & garage. changed oil the other day & it was gray glue type of look to it. thought it could be water but level in radiator was the same after two rides for about 2/3 hours each so it could not be that. does anybody have any ideas for me as to what this could be.....
depending on type of oil used
depending on type of oil used, that's totally normal. I have run heavier oil in my 94 cr5 and after some time on it, it comes out looking that way
my sticky gray oil......
thanks so much brother. i have been running tha honda oil the past two times & just now have changes to the synthetic stuff to see what happens now. i have been trying to figure this out for the past month or two & even the morons at the honda dealership have said that it was water & when i told them that the level iun the radiator has not moved, they had not one other answer for me. not one of them have said what you have said about sometimes this can be normal. the funny thing is that the bike NEVER has any performance p[roblems at all, ever and i know that if it was a leak it would effect my performance wouldn't it? thanks for your reply to this & i look forward to hearing what you have to say next dude....

You have a crankcase breather
You have a crankcase breather that can and does attract water. Even a drop or two can discolor oil. The dealership is right, it probably is water in the oil. However, not from your cooling system.
stick oil of mine.........
that's good to know but, what does it all meen? can i do something about it or is it nothing to worry about? i have lost no performance or anything like that, the bike still runs great.
