i'm a first time bike owner. i've ridden my 06 crf250r for 30 hours (10 rides). i've changed the oill and cleaned the air filter 4 times. should i take it in to the shop to have it looked at?
unless there is a problem you have no need to take it to the shop. with only 30 hours the bike shouldnt need a rebuild yet. just check out all the parts for visible wear. you keep your chain oiled right? if not take it off clean it and re-oil it check the chain, guides, and rollers for wear check your brakes for obvious wear. you will still have plenty of pad left. just look for things that are obvious that need replacing if there are any at all. any questions just let me kno
thanks. i dont ride it too hard but i do lube my chain every ride. i'll do what you said for sure. the bike runs fine. i was just curious about the jettiing even though i have no idea what i'm talking about when i say jetting.
the only time jetting is needed on a 4 stroke bike is when u get a new pipe or sometimes a new air filter. you really never need to mess with 4 strokes that much. now jettin on a 2 stroke is a whole different thing.
i guess i could explain jetting too. jetting is the process of changing the jets in yur carb to create a richer or leaner mixture. the pilot jet which controls yur mixture up to 1/4 throttle, then there is the needle jet which is a needle (i dont kno but if u ever twist the throttle while lookin through yur carb yull see a needle lookin thing thats it) and there is an air screw these two control 1/4 to 1/2 throttle, then the main jet which is the most commonly changed controls 1/2 to full. any way jets are just threaded inserts with different sized holes in them to let fuel through and they usually go up in incriments of 5 like if u had a 210 main and u wanted a leaner mixture u would replace it with a 205. thats how the pilot jet works too but its just a smaller number. then the needle jet has circlips on it which allow u to change how far the needle is put into the the mixture (sorry im not more specific on that but it would take a sec to explain) then finally you have the air screw which is just a screw which controlls the amount of air that is let in so theres a quick explaination any more question just ask
this is great. i've never owned a bike and to me it runs fine. i dont ride hard at all. still learning. some dude heard my bike backfiring while i was idling and mentioned how it was running lean. then he went on to say that i can blow my top end. of course that caught my attentio being as though i just dropped $6200 on a brand new bike.
