Hey,
I just bought myself a 1996 xr200. when i bought it i knew it wasnt runnig as well as it should so sent the carby off for a good clean and a jet adjustment. i changed the fuel, cleaned and oiled the air filter, and changed the engine oil. With the engine oil i put in 1.3 litres.
I am having trouble with the choke, i can start it with the choke on full or half (doesnt matter) i leave it to warm up for about 5 minutes and then ride a hundred metres or so before taking the choke of completely. when i do this it automatically dies. does anyb ody else share this problem or able to help me with this problem?
My second problem is the engine is running extremely smokey. i dont understand this and since this is my first four-stroke i have no idea what to do!!!
so does anybody else know how to fix.
cheers!
sam
ok
how much u pay for it??? my lil bro has a xr70 and it runs lie shit without the choke so he just runs it with the choke hes had it four 2 years now and he hasnt had any problems so IDK he got the bike fo free ne ways. But it runs fine and doesnt like bog down wich was suprising to me cuz ussually it bogs it down. But does it run ok with the choke on? If that doesnt work the bring it to the shop and ask someone. Or sell it on ebay and get a new bike!
yeh payed $1150 aussie for i
yeh payed $1150 aussie for it and seemed like a good idea at the time. seems very lucky for ur lil bro cos it just bogs down when u gas it. Mine just dies instanly when u take the choke off. i took the carby down to the bike shop and because they had had it in the week before they predict that its either getting rid of ruibbish in the bottom of the tank or the breathers and lines that run through the carby have got some sort of growth inside that cannot be removed with compressed air. they think i will prob have to replace the carby.
they think that the problem with the smoke is the rings. Has any body done the rings on one of these before? never owned a four stroke so its all a learning curve to me. just wanting to know whether it would be a job i should have done professionally or would my general mechanical ability be enuff to save my but!!!!
thanks for ur response
sam
Dont leave the choke on when
Dont leave the choke on when you ride It will just die on you.
What colour is the smoke ??
if you just got to change the
if you just got to change the rings its not that hard of a job all you have to do is remove the head and cylinder along with that cam and just make sure u know how that comes apart and just make sure u dont loose the timing chain and also check your valve seals they can also cause oil to go into the cyl.
