i have a 06 crf230f and before i modified it , i could run it a 65-70mph, but the acceleration was slow so i woud suggest moding yous, and a 03 230 should be about the same as mine
YEAH THE CRF230 SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO 60-65 EASILY...WITH MODS IT SHOULD BE PUSHING TOWARDS 70-73...I HAVE A CRF150F AND THE 230 IS THE EXACT SAME THING ECXEPT ITS HEAVIER AND A LITTLE BIT FASTER...GOOD MODS WOULD BE A ... AIR FILTER, BIGGER FONT SPROCKET, SMALLER BACK SPROCKET, GOOD EXHAUST PIPE, YOU CAN PUT AIR BOX VENTS WILL HELP ALOT, A BETTER PISTON AND VALVES, AND MOST DEFINATELY YOU NEED TO REJET YOUR CARBURATOR OR ELSE ALL THESE MODS WOULD WORK TO THEIR ABILITY...
If you want speed put the smallest set of sprockets you can get onto it. Might make it slower up to top speed but top speed will improve. If your going out to speed a fortune on the bike just upgrade ur bike to a 125 or 250f then you will notice.
IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOUR GOING TO USE THE BIKE FOR IF HES GOING TO USE IT FOR TRAIL RIDING HE STILL NEEDS TO REJET OR ELSE THE MODS WONT WORK TO THEIR FULL POTENTIAL...
...OBIOSLY YOU DONT KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BIKES AND WHAT THEY NEED...IF YOU PUT IN A AFTERMARKET AIR FILTER AND EXHAUST PIPE THE BIKE NEEDS TO BE REJETTED...IF YOU HAVE MODS TO YOUR BIKE REJETT THE CARBURATOR AND YOUR DEFINATELY GOING TO FEEL THE DIFFERENCE...
HEY DUMDASS, NOT MX DAVE BUT THE GUY ABOVE YOU , IVE BEEN RIDING BIKES FOR THREE YEARS AND RACING FOR TWO, FIRST OFF I BOUGHT A FMF 4 FOR MY CRF230F NOTHING ON THERE SAID TO REJET YOUR BIKE, BUT LIKE MXDAVE SAID YOU CAN IF YOU WANT, AND SECONDLY WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU REJET YOUR BIKE FOR A AIRFILTER DUMBASS, YOU WOULD ONLY REJET IT IF YOU BUT A POWERFLOW SYSTEM ON IT HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN ON BIKES, AND WORKING ON THEM
...WOW YOUVE BEEN RIDING BIKES FOR 3 YEARS I DONT CARE IVE BEEN RIDING THEM FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS NOW...IT DOESNT MATTER HOW MANY YEARS YOU HAVE BEEN RIDING WHAT MATTERS IT HOW MUCH YOU KNOW ABOUT BIKES...NOT ALL BIKES NEED TO BE REJETED WHEN YOU CHANGE THE AIRFILTER AND THE EXHAUST PIPE...OBIOUSLY WHEN YOU DRASTICALY MAKE CHANGES IN THE AIR INTAKE AND IN THE EXHAUST YOU HAVE TO REJET...BUT THATS WHAT MOST SMART PEOPLE DO IS REJET...PLUS I KNOW HOW TO DO IT MY SELF SO I DONT NEED NO ONE TO DO IT FOR ME...I DONT REALLY CARE WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR BIKE...BUT I BET IF YOU REJET YOUR BIKE ALL OF THE MODS YOU SAY YOU HAVE DONE WILL WORK BETTER...
I dont really want to get into this thingy but changing airfilter???? No way do you have to rejet your bike for that. Btw you have been riding bikes for 10 years Why the hell do you own a crf150????????
YOU DONT HAVE TO REJET YOUR BIKE FOR A AIRFILTER AND IM GUESSING YOUR THIRTEEN HENCE THIRTEEN RIGHT, AND SECOND YOUR NOT A RANKED HARESCRAMBLE RACER ARE YOU KNOW 13, I AM AND I DO ALL MY OWN WORK BUT EVEN THE HONDA SHOP SAYS DONT REJET UNLESS YOU PUT ON A POWERFLOW KIT
well, i dont kno if my opinion is reputable but u really need to rejet for anything that changes flow characteristics. why do u put an aftermarket air filter on your bike....??????? you want to get more power right, well power isnt just a magic thing that happens, you had to change something, which was air flow. if air flow was changed then jetting changes because more air is drawn in yet your jetting that you have can only supply the ammount of gas it could before the filter. adding more gas to this mixture with a higher main equals: you now have more air AND gas entering yourengine which creates a bigger explosion. without jetting you just have more air entering your engine. and as far as honda telling u not to rejet......, well thats honda for you because any other company is going to tell you to rejet and im going to tell you to also because you will gain power is your bike is setup for the mods you have. an exhaust also needs to be rejetted for certain. most companies even include jets in the kit. an exhaust means more flow, which means air is sucked in quicker through the intake and that exhaust leaves the engine quicker, bringing you back to the whole need to rejet. also for all you 2 strokers out there, when u change your fuel mixture you need to rejet. say you ran 32:1 and went to 50:1, u need to get a smaller main jet, going down equals a bigger main. trust me u should rejet. u can get away with it with minor mods, but there is no point in modding if you dont jet, u just dont get the full potential. if you need help jetting check out this how-to article i wrote: http://www.mototips.com/how-tos-performance-forum/2173-jetting-your-rid…
I dont buy a after market air filter to gain power, I dont anybody in there right mind has changed the jetting due to putting a new air filter on. I know about jetting just the air filter one is stupit
MAN FINALLY SOME ONE AGREES WITH ME...THANK YOU TIGMASTER YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT REJETTING IS BASICALLY THE KEY TO YOUR MODS WITH OUT THEM THEY WONT WORK TO THEIR FULL POTENTIAL...
think about it mxdave, y does yur car have all those them there fancy sensors like a pressure sensor, a temp sensor, and a air flow sensor. think about how little atmospheric pressure affects the jetting of yur bike from day to day. y would yur car have that if it made no diff? an air filter changes mor things than the pressure being a mm higher from day to day. y would yur car monitor temperature and adjust jetting? temp is not going to affect yur car that much from day to day. it will comparing winter to summer but not day to day. why does yur car monitor the exact minute amount of gas in yur exhaust with an O2 sensor? that minute amount of fuel doesnt even change performance. why would yur car essentially rejet for these minute changes, because even the smallest amount of jetting matters!!!!!!! thats why u should rejet even for the slightest changes in the flow characteristics of your engine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! true story. its not stupid, its just getting the most performance for your money. also if u dont buy an aftermarket for performance, do u just buy it for better filtering, they add performance with higher flow rates.
when you buy a twin air filter it tells you its not for power its just a dual stage air filter to hel keep smaller particles from getting in your bike , it doesent help with power unless you buy a powerflow kit which then you have to rejet youcr bike
tell me why then aftermarket filters are advertised to flow better than stock. now i think flow means air flow. nbow i could be wrong but if u have a higher air flow entering yur engine and yur bike was jetted to run with less air flow this means that there is more air than gas creating a lean condition..... doesnt that equal loss of power??? think of it this way say u had 2 exact same bikesnwith 2 exact same riders, same weight and skill. now one bike has a filter and is jetted for the exact flow rate of that filter no more or anything just jetted for that filter. say it was a 10 mile drag, who do u think would be getting there first?
