Thanks for the replies guys , I will mix 40 to 1 , But i think i have major problems with my bike . I got my idle screw in for my carb and put it in yesterday but it still wont idle" or start with the kick start.... So i pushed it down a hill and got it to start it was running pretty rough but cleared up enough so that the power band kicked in .. But then i looked down and seen oil LEAKING from the exhaust { where it hooks to the head } and also from a hole on the top side of the engine { right under the carb bowl } and the under side of my rear fender was covered with black suit { oil } from the exhaust ... I have never worked on bikes before , but i have worked on plenty of cars and even rebuilt a engine before and i dont think this good ..... do i just need to do a ring job on the piston ? or is it something else ? { NOW I KNOW WHY I GOT IT SO CHEEP } if anybody can help me with this please ........ much thanks... buddy i hate to tell you this but you got ripped off. that was too much for that bike even if it ran perfect. i would have sold you my 1983 yz 125 with new piston and rings, bored 40 over, new power valve, renthal bars, new tires, new chain and sprockets, and blue plastic for about $450 canadian and it sounds like all you need to do is jet it sounds like its running way to rich. jetting it leaner will make a huge difference. and adjust the fuel mixture screw too. just leave you bike at an idle and turn it out or in until the highest idle possible is acheived then set your idle screw back to your choice of idle speed

well, i would make sure the gas/oil is mixed right and if so its time to jet. main needs to drop at least four steps. pilot needs to go down 2. this will help starting a lot. and once u get it started and somewhat running, follow yz_kid's procedure for the idle screw, it is right.

thanks, so i hate to here that i paid to much for the bike that____!!!! I will main and jet . but i dont want to run until i figure out why oil is coming out of exhaust at engine . dont want to screw engine up .

jetting will fix the oily crap dripping. mine had that to its not really oil its just your fuel/oil mix and a bit of carbon out of the engine. this happens when it is flooding out. so jetting it leaner will fix that

so i called the only dirt bike shop in my town { MARBLE FALLS,TEXAS} and the lady is telling me that since the carburator is after market { MIKUNI } and not stock , that she cant order main and jet . So i looked on bike bandit.com and they have jets and mains but i dont know what size the ones i have now are. and they have like 5 or 6 different sizes..... Any IDEAS?

take your main jet and pilot
take your main jet and pilot jet out and check the numbers on them. they will have tiny little numbers. go down about 4 sizes on the main jet (they go up by 10) and about 2 sizes on the pilot jet

hey i finnaly got my main jet and stuff in the mail yesterday, I put them in when I got home from work and i did what you and tigg told me and went down 4 sizes on the main { 250 to 210 } and 2 sizes on pilot and the bike runs like a SCALDED APES ASS ....... yall really know your shit about bikes... I cant thank you enough man .. The clutch feels kind of weard like grabby or something. if i have the clutch pulled in and rev it up , the bike kind of tries to jump foward every few seconds and when i take off in 1rst if i dont give it alot of gas and let the clutch out real slow it dies.... thought you might have a ideal ?

the clutch basket is worn. what happens is that the fingers in the clutch basket get grooves in then where the clutch disks normally slide. when these grooves occur, the load of the engine will force the disks against the fingers and when u pull the clutch in the load on the disks will not allow them to slide properly causing the clutch to stay partially engaged. as far as the bike dieing when clutching in slow, this finger process works backwards. the plates will be apart, and when u let the clutch out slow enough the plates will catch on the grooves and get stuck there until there is a large enough amount of load to overcome the grooves and it will slap it together causing sudden clutch engagement and killing the bike. this is what the problem is as long as your clutch cable is adjusted properly.
