My son is six years old and wants to ride. Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ says he is old enough to ride in the 50cc class. I need a recommendation for what brand of bike he should ride. I don't want to spend $1500 on a honda or any of the other top brands until I see how serious he is. I feel it should be fully automatic for now since he is only six and shifting may be a bit much for him. I want it to be fun, not frustrating. If he sticks with it I'll get a semi-auto and then when he is ready he'll graduate to a manual transmission. I also see that there are some people riding four stroke bikes. In my day, all we had were two stroke engines and other than mixing gas and oil together the two stroke was awesome. So, I said all of that to also see if someone can recommend whether I should get a two or four stroke bike for him. If anyone can help i would really appreciate it.Thanx, Frank fhmartino@verizon.net
yamaha peewee
buddy semi automatic is a gun theres shift and automatic you should go to yamaha.com look at the sport site go to off road bike look at the lowest smallest bike there it is fully automatic and it is really safe trust me I know a yamaha and you are right you should not get him a honda but maybe a suzuki off road 50cc would be good to or a kawasaki and once he gets older you should get him a pit bike I have one but its cutomized to be as powerful as a 250 or even a 450 so yamaha is a safe bike you should go check it out Jayz159 sighning off
Yamaha
Yamaha is the way to go. If you can't get something new, look for a used one. I also found it was easier to find a semi auto where they have to shirt but there was no clutch was easier for my little cousins to move up to a manual then the fully automatic.
if you really think hes not
if you really think hes not interested get him something simple and if hes serious get him a ktm i ride an 85 in 16-17 class amateur and some off the really bad ass kids in the 50cc class usually ride ktm hitting 40 ft step ups n what not on them they r fast little bikes
suzuki JR 50cc
You should get him a suzuki JR 50cc. They are great littel bikes. I had one when I was 5 so it will be great for him. your beter off geting a used one. there very durable after 6 years of sit in a garage I wanted to see if it stil ran and it started right up. It was 2000 so you should try getting one around then. They have 1 speed their is a shifter but no clutch. im 16 now and that bike made me ride for 11 years (in the future get him a 2stroke they are the best )
2 stroke
Get a 2stroke citriphical clutch (semi manual/no clutch) if you want your kid to like it, no one wants to go slow.
honda
honda on craigslist $500 for a bad ass 50

I would recommend a yamaha pw50 it has no gears and is a decent power 2 stroke for his age.
