I see there is a comment regards the 3 day tour, I have just been a 3 day ride with Dave and his crew,I had a great time there were 8 in the group and we all loved it. I found the accommodation better than expected, it is the outback and there are limited options.
The trails were excellent our group were better than average riders and we were buggered after each day.
Cant say enough about the ride, the crew were very switched on, was great value for money.. Ride on..
3 Day tour Fair Dinkum style
Forgot to add who can complain about the accommodation when you stay at the Lions den hotel, a iconic pub with great bar maids, and Max the new owner and publican. Then on the second night we stayed at PK's Jungle lodge, backpacker haven, loads of good looking girls getting around and plenty of cold beer.
If this doesn't make you happy then better stay home and watch T.V
Hot chicks and beer in the Cape
Now now.. for those of us with beautiful, smart, kind wives at home keeping the fire burning.. there is plenty more than just hot chicks and beer in the tropics... a bit of respect WornOutCapeRider?!!
But, as you seem to have been with Fair Dinkum a few times now, perhaps you can tell me about the 5 day and 8 day ride. of course the FD crew will say its great.. I've heard the 8 days is one to remember.. have you done it?!
Fair Dinkum Bike Tours
Well where do I start, Two of us from NZ took the 8 day tour with Dave back in August 05 From Cairns to The tip (not). Now I no this was a few years ago but I think very relevent for anyone about to spend the sharp end of 5k.Everything started out fine, althought the correspondense back and forth to organize was fairly slack. DRZs well maintained. Approx 10 of us left cairns and headed for the Tip. Not very proffesional>Support vehicle a Hire four wheel drive, Daves Father the Support Driver for this Trip. A swedish Girl as cook 1st Trip and a last minute Guy (hilly) as tail end charlie, off we went. Certainly cant fault the riding. Only bitch here would be that Dave wont let you adjust the bikes at all to suit the individual rider. Any way 3 days into the ride the swedish cook was driving and rolled the support vehicle and ended up with Dave dad getting a ride in the Air ambo. This is where the tour stopped and the trouble started. Any way long story short Dave Screwed all of us over to the tune of 4k each approx and became very dificult to deal with.Never so much as a sorry for cocking up your holiday or the offer of another trip, only interested in him self and the money. He was able to hide behind the indemnity form that we all had to sign as a condition of the tour. Anyway on a more positive note we came back to Aussie and Did Cairns to Cape York With Roy Kunda of Cape York Motorcycles 2007. This man is a Dirt bike God, what he dosnt no about the cape unreal.Totally proffesional in his approach with excellent backup from his wife Renee, these are the guys I would go with again in a heart beat.
Awesome company and great riding
There is always 2 sides to a story... I can only add my comments and that is every tour I have had, has been fantastic, nothing has been a problem, the guides were fantastic and the bikes are new models every season. The accommodation has been nothing short of brilliant.
The 8 day tour I did with Fair Dinkum bike tours they had just purchased a new 4x4 support truck with customised body and wherever we went created a lot of interest, very well set up.
As for Cape York m/cycles the tour I was on with Fair Dinkum while we were sleeping in a tent with a stretcher and mattress every night, the other company had their riders sleeping in the rain in a sleeping bag so If that is what you think is a great trip then we all have different opinions..
"Stay upright"
5 day Tour
Hello rideinstyle, Yes I have done the 5 day tour, it was awesome, some very technical trails on the tour though. We encountered every type of terrain and the historical value was great.
A must do ride if you ever get the chance. I see on their web site www.fairdinkumbiketours.com.au they have got new premises which looks fantastic obviously the crew are doing something right. I have read quite a few articles in the magazines about them as well. I plan to do a 3 day tour this year with a group of mates, just have to get a leave pass from the missus... Im sure you understand..
Keep it safe.
cairns accommodation
great. I really like what you've acquired here, really like what you are stating and the way in which you say it. You make it enjoyable and you still take care of to keep it sensible. I can't wait to read much more from you. This is really a tremendous site.
