I am a 14 year old kid and rode my friends bike last summer and really enjoyed it but i want to buy a used bike to start off. the thing is that i dont know if an 85 is to small and if a 125 is too big help me out thanks
I've seen a 10 yr old kid on a 125 before. He was only able to stand on the pegs. His dad would start him off and he did pretty good. When he wanted to stop he pulled up to his dad's trailer and rested the bike up against it. The kid was comfortable with it. So make sure you ride the bike make sure your comfortable but give yourself room to grow a little. Plus you still want to leave room to improve your skills and have fun with it(that's the most important thing.

I am 21, 6'1 and 150 pounds, When I was between the ages of 5-10 I drove a honda 50 of some type that is ancient, then when I turned 11 I switched to an 1991 XR 80 which was awesome, I had a lot of fun on that bike which had the ability to do decent wheelies, Meanwhile my brother had a kawasaki 80 2 stroke, his bike had more power but it also broke down all the time and had to use mixed fuels. I stopped driving the 80 when I turned 16, I was way too tall for it and then it got stolen. Now I recently puchased a TTR-125 because I believe 4-strokes although not being as powerful as 2 strokes, have a lot more life in them, and I want to spend more time on the trails than in the garage. The only thing I had to do on my XR was occasionally change the oil.. though that's based on memory, but I know I never had to do any major repairs. also top speed isn't very important for most people who ride trails and don't want to loose their good looks with broken bones. So When choosing between bikes you should consider both power and reliablitiy.. I also like to have a kickstand for when I fill up or take a break in a field.

1st of all, it's not how tall you are or how heavy you are, it's your skill level, experience, and interests that should determine what bike u get, i'm planning on getting a YZ125, I have had a 2 stroke 80, then a TT-R 125, now i got a 350 warrior, i'd already have a YZ, only i knew i'd be doing night and winter driving, now i'm going to be doin mostly short runs. (pits, tracks, short trails) (ALSO Sherm, when I had the TT-R125, stock, I usually started in 2nd gear, and on numerous occasions i've started in 3rd, if u get it just right u can get a very nice wheelie out of 3rd).
well first off..the ttr 230 is junk..if you want a dirtbike go with a RM125 or the 250...or maybe the yz 125 or 250...and your height and weight are a big factor but not always..hell with those damn four-stroke dirtbikes, maybe on a quad but a dirtbike is ment to be two-stroke....but if your anywhere from 5'3"-5'10" 125-160lbs then go with a 125 and 5'10"-6'3" 150-210 then a 250.....i've been a pro rider for 6 years so i know whats its like...but yeah leave the four-strokes alone unless all you want to do is site see....but if you wanna have fun and keep up with your riding buddies then the two-stroke....
You can't compare a yamaha YZ with a TTR people ttr is a leisure bike, not high performance, YZ's are 2-stokes, exept for the YZ 426, which i would say is the fastest stock 4-stroke you can buy, it'll keep up with a CR250. i would recommend the yamaha YZ-426, because for a 4-stroke, it is incredibly light about 215 pounds i think? acceleration in incedible, i can pull a catwalk in 4th (5 speed tranny), and top end is real fast. at least 150 kilometers per hour, for all you americans convert that to miles perhour yourself. my friend has one, and he is probably only 5'4, 110 pounds, and he can touch ground from the seat, and pick it up himself, he is a small guy, and has no trouble handling it. and, being a high compression 4 stroke (12. sumthing to 1) it'll last you longer than a 2 stroke! in fact, my friends is sitting in my garage right now, and if you don't mind, i think ill go drive it for him,
