I'm sure lots of guys ride CR's while trailriding, and can comment on the changes they've made to make it better, but some things I'd expect to find are:
suspension harsher than it needs to be for trailriding
the exhaust noisier than acceptable
and the knobbies/tyres to perhaps not be as tough as trailbike tyres
no lights if you get stuck out after dark
less bashplate style protection than needed
peaky engine could be a handful in the tight
gearing would be to low for open country
So I guess that's a no from me, i'd go for a CRF250X, or wait for a CRF450X. Of course, if you are going to do 90% MX/SX racing and only a little trail riding, it may be an appropriate choice.
i have a 04 yz 250 and i love it for bush, just home made bashplate forkseal savers and im set, but i grew up round the trax i ride so i dont ride like the average trail rider i take advantage of its light weight and power so i thrash it like on on a track, my brother has a kxf 250 and its probably better for bush it attacks hills like there speedhumps... you dont even notice that it has less power than a 2-stroke 250 up the bush, but it all depends where you ride, i know my trax and its really tight rainforest type, but i get left at the back of the pack on open trax with a bunch of xr 600's and 450's, plus bigger bikes slow down for bigger jumps, just shred on past em :D
the crf 250 is a motocross bike. It is not god for trails unless you respring and revalve the suspension , then change the rear sprocket to a 53 tooth , maybe add an auto clutch , power now valve and a different leak and pilot jet to eliminate the cough then you might have fun on it
Yes, and no
