yeah, im not sayin raptors suck completely, b/c they are good quads, but like i said everyone has their own opinion, and mine would be the yfz for the track and the raptor is good for the trails but the yfz still would take it. but as i know and most of us here know it all depends on the rider, and i have the k&n air filter and the full performance exuast thats what the GYTR exaust kit is all performance..and the ? you asked...not really the air and fuel mixture is all in your jets in the carb. and if you have any experience with carbs. then you can ajust it yourelf. I know for a fact on can do it on a two-stroke b/c i was my own machanic when i raced. a four-stroke my be different..but you should be able to do it yourself..
yes dirtbikes are the way to go, but you can hurt yourself just as fast on a quad....trust me...but he should try riding different machines to get a feel for what is more his style...you just dont get the most powerfull and fastest machine on the market and think your going to hop your ass on in and rip the shit out of it, b/c it will hurt you...but yeah he should experament first

raptors must not suck too much, i mean, yamaha has certianly sold enough of them, they musta done something right. but um, in regards to the answer you gave me to my '?' i can take the carb apart and adjust it, but how would i know whether it is running to rich or lean? cuz i dont have any special computer equipment or nothin that i think mechanics have, but it is simple to adjust, i just dont know how to tell. and, if i do this, should i run premium in it? even though it doesnt say i have too? or will that not be so good for it, its a 350 raptor, i know i know, pretty small right
well the way i tell is that if your quad blowing smoke then its to rich the way i check it is by putting my hand over the exaust and see if there is any moister or and unburnt gas....and the spark plug will burn hot if its to lean..there are other ways to check but thats how i do it and its been working so far.

if i were you i would run 93 octane, it burns cleaner and it gives your quad more power, premeium would not hurt it but the better the gas the better the quad...if you need any info on anything feel free to ask...considering im a pro rider and my own machanic...
i own a 06 yfz 450 it has ron wood full exhaust,ron wood air box eliminator intake with k&n filter, jetted out,cam timming mod.,barnett dirtdigger clutch kit, a 13 tooth front sprocket,22x11x8 skat trak 8 paddle haulers. My friend i ride with at the river who has the same exact 06 yfz with the exact same brand parts and setup i have exept for the clutches witch are stock in his, and had his dynoed at little sahara and it dynoed at 52hp at the rear wheels and thats with just bolt on and no major mods.I do not know were u got your hp numbers for the yfz but u might want to refigure them. i have raced many raptors and have not found one yet that can beat my yfz, but i am not saying that ther is not one that can't beat it. When my yfz was stock i still beat raptors that had all the basic bolt on performance parts. I can tell u from experience the bigger the cc does not always mean faster especially against the yfz 450.
